What are collagen stimulators?
Collagen stimulators are injectable substances that activate natural collagen production in the skin, improving firmness, elasticity and texture. They are used to treat skin laxity, wrinkles and loss of volume, offering gradual, long-lasting results.
Unlike dermal fillers, they do not add immediate volume, but instead regenerate the skin from within.
Unlike other aesthetic treatments, collagen stimulators offer gradual, sustained improvement, avoiding sudden changes in appearance. This allows for more subtle, harmonious results that adapt naturally to the facial and body structure. Their prolonged effect also reduces the need for frequent top-ups, making them an efficient option for those seeking revitalised skin in the long term.

Benefits
Another major benefit is their versatility, as they can be used on different areas of the body to treat not only skin ageing, but also loss of firmness caused by weight fluctuations or the passage of time. By improving skin quality from within, they produce even results, enhancing radiance and smoothness without altering the face’s natural expression.

Types of collagen stimulators
Not all collagen stimulators are the same. At your assessment, the doctor chooses the most suitable one for the area, the degree of laxity and what you want to achieve:
Poly-L-lactic acid (polylactic acid): stimulates collagen very gradually; results appear little by little over several months and are among the longest-lasting. Usually 2-3 sessions about 4-6 weeks apart
Calcium hydroxylapatite: gives a little support from the very start and then stimulates collagen. Widely used on the jawline, chin area, neck and hands
Diluted calcium hydroxylapatite: improves firmness and skin quality over larger areas such as the neck, décolletage, arms or abdomen, without adding volume
Polycaprolactone: combines immediate support with long-lasting collagen stimulation
They are often combined with hyaluronic acid, which restores volume in specific areas while the stimulator improves firmness across the whole skin
Treatments that combine with collagen stimulators
Collagen stimulators improve skin firmness gradually. For a more complete result, the doctor can combine them in the same plan with treatments that work on what they do not treat.
View treatment01Hyaluronic Acid
Restores volume straight away in specific areas such as the cheekbones, chin or folds, while the stimulator firms the skin as a whole.
View treatment02Neuromodulators
Soften expression lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes, which collagen stimulators do not treat.
View treatment03Skinbooster
Deeply hydrates the skin and restores its glow, complementing the firmness that stimulators provide.
View treatment04Polynucleotides
Regenerate the skin from within and improve its quality and elasticity, especially in thin skin or around the eyes.

How is collagen stimulator treatment carried out?
A biostimulator is injected into the deeper layers of the skin so your body produces new collagen and the skin gradually gains firmness.

Initial assessment
The doctor assesses skin quality, laxity and the patient’s needs to determine the appropriate type and amount of product.

Procedure
The biostimulator is injected into the deep layers of the skin with a fine needle or cannula, following a pattern that spreads the product evenly. The area is then massaged.

Recovery
Mild swelling or a small bruise for a few days is normal. The doctor will show you how to massage the area and ask you to avoid sun and intense heat.

Results
Collagen forms gradually: the skin gains firmness and quality between 6 and 12 weeks. The effect can last between one and two years.

Frequently asked questions
Your questions about this treatment, your medical assessment and aftercare.
What are collagen stimulators?
+
They are injectable substances that activate natural collagen production, gradually improving skin firmness, elasticity and quality.
Which areas of the body are they recommended for?
+
They can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, hands and body to improve skin laxity, wrinkles and loss of firmness.
How do they differ from dermal fillers?
+
Hyaluronic acid fillers add volume straight away in a specific area, such as the lips, cheekbones or folds. Collagen stimulators work on skin firmness and quality: they make your own body produce new collagen, and results appear gradually. Calcium hydroxylapatite sits in between, as it gives a little immediate support and then stimulates collagen. They are often combined.
How many sessions are needed to see results?
+
Generally, between 1 and 3 sessions are recommended, depending on the degree of skin laxity and the skin’s individual response.
How long do the effects of the treatment last?
+
Results can last between 12 and 24 months, depending on the type of stimulator used and aftercare.
Is the procedure painful?
+
Fine needles or cannulas are used to administer the treatment. It may cause mild discomfort, but it is well tolerated and a topical anaesthetic can be applied.
Are there any side effects?
+
There may be redness, mild swelling or small bruises in the treated area, which disappear within a few days.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
+
Yes, it is compatible with neuromodulators, hyaluronic acid, radiofrequency and other procedures to enhance results.
What aftercare is needed?
+
Avoid sun exposure, intense heat, strenuous exercise and massage in the treated area for the first 24–48 hours.
Who should not have this treatment?
+
It is not recommended for pregnant women or people with autoimmune diseases, active skin infections or an allergy to the ingredients.
What is polylactic acid?
+
It is poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible, resorbable material that stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen. Results appear little by little over several months; usually 2-3 sessions are done about 4-6 weeks apart, and the effect can last up to around 2 years.
What is calcium hydroxylapatite?
+
It is a substance similar to the mineral in bone, in the form of microspheres within a gel. It gives a little support from the very start and then stimulates collagen production. Diluted, it is used to improve skin firmness on the neck, décolletage, arms or hands. The effect usually lasts 12 to 18 months.
Polylactic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite: which is better?
+
Neither is better in general: it depends on the area and your goal. Polylactic acid is ideal for restoring density very gradually; calcium hydroxylapatite when you also want some support and definition from the start. The doctor decides with you at your assessment.
