Benefits

After cancer surgery we will ask for clearance from your medical team. Usually at least 6 months should pass after the last surgery or radiotherapy, until the skin and scar are stable.

  • Realistic 3D areola and nipple

  • Colour matched to your skin and the other breast

  • Disguises periareolar scars

  • Corrects asymmetry in shape or size

  • Private, discreet care

  • No further surgery

03

Techniques

Every case is different. The most common situations are:

  • 3D reconstruction after mastectomy: we draw the areola and nipple with light and shadow to create a sense of relief.

  • Colour correction: areolas that are very light or depigmented after surgery or naturally.

  • Periareolar scars: we camouflage the scar outline after augmentation, reduction or breast lift.

04

Is it right for you?

It can help you if:

  • You have had breast reconstruction

  • You have visible scars around the areola

  • Your areolas are asymmetrical or have lost colour

  • You want a natural result without going back to theatre

05

When it is not recommended

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) treatment in the last 6 months

  • Tendency to keloid scarring

  • Uncontrolled diabetes or clotting disorders

  • Active infection, wounds or dermatitis in the area

  • Ongoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy

Real cases, step by step

How a micropigmented areola heals

Three cases by Elena Cotrina: the freshly treated areola looks darker; it lightens as it heals and after a month a touch-up is assessed if needed.

How is it done?

An unhurried process at your pace: we assess the skin and scar, choose shape and colour with you and refine the result in a second session.

  1. Assessment and design — Areola micropigmentation

    Assessment and design

A first no-obligation visit: we talk, assess the skin and scar, and choose shape, size and colour.

  2. Session — Areola micropigmentation

    Session

90 to 120 minutes. Reconstructed skin often has reduced sensation; otherwise we use topical anaesthetic.

  3. Healing — Areola micropigmentation

    Healing

Protective dressing and simple aftercare for about 10 days. No swimming, sun or sauna during that time.

  4. Touch-up and result — Areola micropigmentation

    Touch-up and result

A second session after 6–8 weeks to refine colour and relief. The result lasts 2 to 3 years.

How we work

Safety and precision at every step

  1. Information consultation

We explain the whole process and go over your health, allergies and medication before you decide anything.

  2. Design made for you

We draw the design to suit your features and choose the pigment for your skin tone. We don't start until you are happy with it.

  3. Allergy test

Before the treatment we check that your skin tolerates the pigments.

  4. Approved pigments and single-use materials

Pigments approved for micropigmentation, and sterile, disposable needles and cartridges.

  5. Aftercare and touch-up

You get written care instructions for before and after, and we check the result at the touch-up appointment.

Your questions answered

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about this treatment, your session and aftercare.

When can I have micropigmentation after a mastectomy?

+

When your medical team gives you the go-ahead and the skin is stable, usually from 6 months after the last surgery or radiotherapy.

Does it hurt?

+

Reconstructed skin usually has very reduced sensation. In other cases we use topical anaesthetic and the session is comfortable.

Does it look realistic?

+

Yes. With the 3D technique we work light, shadow and texture so the areola and nipple appear to have relief.

How many sessions are needed?

+

Usually two: the main session and a touch-up after 6–8 weeks. Very scarred skin may need one more.

Can it be matched to the other breast?

+

Yes, we adjust size, shape and colour using the other areola as a reference.

Can I come just for information first?

+

Of course. The first appointment is just to talk, answer questions and assess your case, with no obligation.

How does the areola change after the session?

+

In the first week the area darkens and forms a thin scab; as it comes off, the colour lightens. At the follow-up we check how the colour has settled and do the touch-up if needed.

Can an areola lost to necrosis or after a skin graft be reconstructed?

+

Yes, once the skin is stable and with the go-ahead from your medical team. We design the outline for symmetry with the other breast and then complete the areola with colour and relief.
